This partial denture can last up to 15 years with proper care. However, people can experience some problems with these dentures. Common problems include clasp failure and artificial tooth loss. Both issues can be fixed. People should bring the dentures to the dentist instead of fixing the problem themselves.

Flexible partial dentures

People who have trouble wearing cast metal partial dentures often turn to flexible partial dentures. Made from a special type of plastic, the dentures are flexible, lightweight and comfortable to wear. People adjust to these dentures quickly. The material blends in well with the natural teeth, making it difficult to detect the dentures.

Like cast metal partial dentures, these dentures can last up to 15 years. Problems can occur during the life span of the denture, though. Some acrylics are prone to staining. Also, acrylic materials put excess force on the gum tissue. This can cause the gums to recede.

Dental flippers

Dental flippers are not meant to be a permanent replacement for missing teeth. People use flippers temporarily before getting dental implants. People on strict budgets also might get dental flippers for a short period before getting another removable partial denture. Dental flippers are more affordable than other options.

This removable partial denture is made from denture acrylic. The pink acrylic matches the gums. Dental flippers can be made with or without clasps. Clasps are necessary if several teeth are needed or the flipper will not stay in place.

Dental flippers are prone to breaking. These dentures also put excess force on the gum tissue, which can lead to gum recession. Since most people do not wear dental flippers for long, gum recession is usually not an issue. Dentists keep an eye on the gum health when patients wear these dentures to be careful, though.
